Annelen and Marit met in 1994 while following the basic year of visual arts studies at the HdK Berlin. An art academy which is now called UdK Berlin and in the meantime doesn’t have a basic year no more. You just head for a specific professor’s class.
Both Käferstein Anne and Shalem Marit went to painter’s-classes, Käferstein has studied at Henning Kürschner’s, Shalem at Karl-Horst Hödicke’s. They kept a friendship going during parties, breaks, bar and the occasional studio visit (might need to borrow some scissors).
After gaining their Meisterschüler diploma in 2000, they followed their own live’s paths.
It so happened that Marit had a reminiscent of their students-day’s contact, a pair of quite useful scissors she once borrowed from Anne and somehow never returned. Each time she was using the scissors, she thought: Anne Käferstein!.
At some point, a whole lotta years later, she looked Anne up and found her online. Marit has marveled Anne’s large paintings and sent Anne a message about it and about the scissors: whether she had missed those?
This and more is now a great reason to get together with the idea of a pop-up two days show.
One which will also include Cymph, the new audiovisual performance of SpOp & Bruinsma @spopbruinsma that’s Shalem with musician Dirk Bruinsma. All taking place at Käferstein’s studio in Berlin-Mitte, April 10th -11th.
